Surveys for Corrections Staff

Why survey?

Organizations are always changing and you need to make sure that your agency’s changes are leading to better offender outcomes, greater efficiency, and increased staff development and satisfaction. In this economy, you need to prioritize your changes by focusing on the ones that bring “the greatest bang for the buck.”

Identify Priorities for Change

Our online surveys help identify which leadership and communication strategies, agency sectors, and staff attitudes to target for change. Identifying which areas are in greatest need of intervention, help prioritize which areas change during the present and which areas can be addressed in the future as resources become available.

Measure Agency Progress

Surveys can be taken before and after agencies make changes to see whether they brought about the desired effects on agency climate and attitudes. This before-and-after data helps staff to re-prioritize and adjust change strategies to avoid repeating what doesn’t work.

Give Staff a Voice

Often, staff can feel that changes come at them “from the top” without consideration of their opinions and ideas. Surveying provides staff the opportunity to offer helpful input with the assurance of individual confidentiality.

Cut Costs

The survey, analysis, and reporting process is extremely cost efficient, especially when compared to the price of hiring organizational climate consultants. Agencies can prioritize organizational changes in line with Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) on a very limited budget.

Save Time

Our online surveys are extremely easy to use. Participants can enter basic demographic data and complete the surveys in 30-45 minutes! The online format minimizes response errors and allows for a 95-100% completion rate.

Our Online Surveys for Corrections Staff provide these answers and many more at a fraction of the cost of other organizational culture assessments.

What’s Involved in the Survey Process?

Survey Set Up

When you contact J-SAT to initiate the survey process, we will ask you for the email addresses of each person in the agency who you would like to survey. If there are particular levels or sectors that you would like to analyze separately, we will also ask you to provide these classifications.

Survey Completion

Once you inform your staff about the purposes and time requirements for the process (30-45 minutes), we will send each person an email containing a link to the online surveys, J-SAT staff contact information for technical support, and a reassurance that only aggregate data will be used in survey analysis.

Their individual data will be kept confidential. Using the email link, staff will enter basic demographic information and choose a password that they can use, tocreate an account that will allow them to save the surveys before completion and return to complete them at a later date as needed.

The survey engine guides staff through completing each assessment, requiring a response to each item in order to prevent incompletes or random responding. Reminders will be sent to late responders and oversight staff, if requested, until all surveys are fully completed.

Data Analysis & Reporting

Once all data is collected, J-SAT analysts will review the combined results and create a report containing aggregate graphs, result summaries, and recommendations of key strength and growth areas by level and sector, and for the agency as a whole.

Follow-Up Assistance

If desired, J-SAT analysts can work with oversight staff to plan for policy realignment, additional training, or other changes that can capitalize on agency strengths and strategically affect identified growth areas. Following these changes, agencies may opt for a second round of surveys and analysis to measure gains in targeted areas.
